General Summary:

Directs and oversees the accounting functions of NineStar Connect Cooperative and its Subsidiaries, which include the Telecom, Electric, Water and Sewer Divisions, plus CICI, CIP Inc, IVN, JCFN and MCC, in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines involving accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, plant accounting and inventory.


Essential Job Functions

1. Prepares, analyzes and reviews consolidated accounting and financial statements and year-end reports for four companies, on a divisional and consolidated basis. Prepares, analyzes and reviews the three subsidiary accounting functions, and all nine financial statements and year end reports for all legal entities that NineStar holds accounting responsibility.

2. Prepares, analyzes and reviews accounting and financial reports and regulatory filings (FCC, NECA, IURC) for completeness, accuracy and compliance with company policies and other regulatory agencies.

3. Reviews and approves financial transactions and financial statements as prepared by ELEC, ILEC, and CABS accountants. Notes any unusual transactions or trends, brings it to the attention of management, and provides recommendations.

4. Prepares the annual budgets for NineStar Connect Cooperative and its Subsidiaries, which include the Telecom, Electric, Water and Sewer Divisions, plus CICI, CIP Inc, IVN, JCFN and MCC. Reviews and analyzes monthly budget discrepancies providing upper management with written and/or verbal explanations.

5. Assists in intercompany payroll and expense transaction allocations, including the intercompany reconciliation completion and review between the nine divisions and subsidiaries. Oversees ELEC, ILEC, and CABS accountant’s functions and provides backup or fills in as needed.

6. Evaluates and implements internal controls for all financial functions including management and control of inventory.
7. Serves as the Finance Division representative on companywide projects as assigned.

8. Performs other duties as needed, including abiding by and adhering to all policies and guidelines of the NineStar employee handbook. *

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:


State and Federal financial reporting laws and regulations, including US GAAP, FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), Part 32 and 64 (Telecom) Ability to keep abreast of changes that negatively impact the company’s financial performance.
FCC telecommunications tariffs.
operating various office software/equipment and Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge in operating various office software/equipment and Microsoft Office product

Education and Experience:

Bachelor Degree in Accounting or equivalent required. 10-12 years in accounting, or 8-10 years in accounting in the utility/telecom industry preferred. High level Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Charts and Graphs, V Look-ups) preferred. Experience working with External Auditors preferred. 3-5 years supervisory experience preferred
